Removing Email from the Server
Using Outlook, Netscape Messenger, MacOS X Mail, or Webmail

How to automatically remove messages from the server

So, you've got 400+ messages in your mailbox, and you're getting an "over-quota" message from the MartNet system.. Here's where to start cleaning things up.

If you use a standard pop-mail client, like Outlook, Netscape Messenger, or Webmail, each has an option to remove messages from the Martnet server once you've read them. This won't delete them from your inbox, but it will make sure that it's not leaving copies to pile up on the MartNet side of things.

Outlook

When in your inbox, click on Tools, and then Accounts..

This will bring up a box with a list of the mail accounts configured on your computer. Highlight the MartNet mail account by clicking on it, and click on the Properties button on the right hand side.

Click on the tab that says Advanced

At the bottom, there's an a check box under "Delivery Options" that reads
Leave a copy of messages on server
Uncheck this box.

Click Apply, then OK
You're done.

Netscape Messenger

With your inbox open, click on Edit and select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings from the drop-down menu

Select the option on the left that says Server Settings

Uncheck the box that reads Leave messages on server

Click OK

MartNet Webmail

In the webmail interface, click the options button from the menu after you log in.

Make sure the first check box, titled Remove from server is checked..

Once checked, click save in order to make the changes permanent.

This will take them off of the server once you've read them.

MacOS X Mail.app

Select the "Preferences" option from the "Mail" menu

Select your MartNet Mail Account from the list of Mail Accounts and click the "Edit" button.
Click on the "Advanced" tab at the top of the Accounts window.

Check off the box that reads "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message"

There are options for specifying when to remove messages from the server. We recommend the default, "Right Away" but it's up to you to decide. You can also click the "Remove Now" button to remove messages from the server immediately, which is useful if you are over your disk quota and trying to clean things up.

Click OK to save the changes.
