Uploading your Web Page using MacOS
Using Fetch on a Machintosh OS 9.2 and below to Upload your files

In order to publish you web page using a Macintosh you must upload the files to your MartNet account. We recommend using Fetch to do this, but any program that supports the FTP protocal will work (ie: NetFinder, Netscape Composer's "Publish" function, and many others.)

The following instructions explian how to useFetch to publish your Web Site.

These instructions can be used to upload ANY files to your MartNet account (not just your Web Site.) We decided to be specific, since the vast majority of people upload Web Sites, and not much else...

1) In the Menu Bar select "Customize/Preferences" then click "Upload."

  • The "Default text format" should be "Text."
  • The "Default non-text format" should be "Raw Data."

2) In the Menu Bar select "File/New Connection"

  • In "Host:" enter name of the server that houses your site, or your virtual domain name, if any.
  • In "User ID:" enter your username.
  • In "Password:" enter your password.
  • Click "OK"

If you have a Dial-up account, use the following settings:

3) A list of file names should appear within a few seconds. (If a file list does not appear, you should receive an error message, and Fetch will write the error to a log file, which should appear in the background. Please make note of these errors before calling MartNet Support!)

  • Your Web Site lives in the directory "public_html." Be sure to put all of your Web site files, folders, scripts, etc. in the public_html directory.
  • You can move files between our server and your Mac by dragging and dropping, or by using the "Put File..." and "Get File..." buttons.
  • Take care when uploading files or whole folders! Fetch does not ask before over writing files and folders that already exist. If you are not careful, you can easily destroy your entire Web Site! Always make sure to save a copy just in case...

That's it! Once the upload is complete, you should now be able to view your Web Site (be sure to type in the appropriate address when viewing your site!)
